About Us

Lateral Environmental’s Director Adam Harman is a Certified Environmental Practitioner with 15 years’ experience specialising in water resource and aquatic ecology assessment and management services. He is enthusiastic and driven to ensure our inland waters are managed sustainably and enjoys the educational and awareness challenges of wetland conservation.

Adam has project managed and provided technical advice on research and consultancy projects on freshwater, estuarine, and salt lake ecosystems across Northern Australia and within the Asia Pacific region. These have included:

He is experienced in a wide range of aquatic field sampling methods and protocols, working alongside, training and learning from traditional landowners of Australia and Papua New Guinea to develop management strategies to protect both target species and their habitats. Adam is Smith Root accredited electrofishing operator and has extensive experience and training in remote 4wd and first aid.

He is proficient in a range of statistical analyses (uni- & multi-variate) and interpretation of biological data, and has led numerous large scale and multi-disciplinary projects in remote and difficult locations for a range of clients in the mining, government, and community sectors in tropical, subtropical, semi-arid, and temperate areas both within Australia (WA, NT & QLD) and internationally (Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands).

Adam is passionate about protecting and enhancing waterways and is motivated by his ability to lead a variety of projects that help provide scientific understanding to support key management decision making on the range of possible ecosystem outcomes from various water management strategies.

We have an extensive network of partner consultancies, NATA laboratory service provides and specialist subcontractors (botanists, taxonomists, zoologists) allowing us to deliver multi-disciplinary services. We lead projects across Northern Australia (WA, NT, QLD) and within the Asia Pacific region (Papua New Guinea, Samoa and Solomon Islands) and can readily function as a specialist within your team or build and manage larger and multidisciplinary project teams for you across our broad network.
